ALMA Parent workshops
It is estimated that 1 out of 2 adults in our community were born outside the United States. Unfamiliar with the higher education system and the multiple ways to finance a university education, parents are often limited in the support they can provide their children beyond middle school. As a result, GREEN-MPNA hosts parent workshops with the goal of providing information, skills and resources to help them navigate the educational system. Expert guests lead workshop topics that include preparing a college plan, the importance of parent participation, university requirements, financial aid, DACA scholarships and other related topics.
We strive to educate and empower families to take an active role in their children’s education. We believe all our youth have the potential to succeed academically with the support of their families, schools and community. Education continues to be an avenue to achieve dreams and career goals. Especially in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) where our students are underrepresented and where numerous well-paid positions in Orange County go unfulfilled every year. Workshops are required for parents of students participating in all ALMA programs. Dates and topics can be found on our calendar.
