High School Scholars Program
(ALMA HSSP)
The ALMA High School Scholars Program (ALMA-HSSP) is designed to connect college students with high school students from the Santa Ana community who wish to pursue higher education. ALMA-HSSP aims to provide mentorship that addresses the students’ needs in high school and ensures a successful transition to college by addressing some key components such as: time management, study skills, writing personal statements, applying for financial aid and scholarships, etc.
Countless under-served high school students are unclear about how to prepare to become strong college applicants. Students and their families encounter additional challenges such as funding university expenses. They are often uninformed about the financial aid options available for their child. We provide these students and their families with knowledge and support through workshops that cover these topics and how to better plan for the coming college years. Our emphasis is on building knowledge and skill sets and applicable in and out of academics to better prepare our students for life after high school.
HOW TO Sign Up:
ALMA-HSSP recruits students from schools in the Santa Ana Unified School District. The ALMA team will be present at outreach events to provide flyers and answer questions about the program. Scholars are required to submit an application before joining the program and attend an orientation once they have been accepted. All meetings are hosted at Madison Elementary School on Saturdays. All programming follows the SAUSD and UC/CSU calendar.
