Stakeholder Meeting
Thursday, May 18, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
We write to invite you to an environmental justice stakeholder meeting at Davis Elementary in Santa Ana on Thursday, May 18 at 6pm. The goal of this meeting is to bring together diverse stakeholders that can work together to address environmental injustice in Santa Ana.
The meeting is being organized by GREEN-MPNA, University of California’s EcoGovLab, and AirUCI, working closely with the City of Santa Ana’s recently expanded Division of Neighborhood Initiatives and Environmental Services . The meeting is a continuation to our environmental justice meeting in Santa Ana held on January 31, 2023 (see the meeting report).
Our goal for the meeting is simple: We want community input and active involvement in our Greening Santa Ana campaign, and its ultimate goal: improvement of Santa Ana’s communities so that they are no longer disadvantaged. “DAC-X-SantaAna” is our banner. Currently, 33 of Santa Ana’s 64 neighborhoods are designated disadvantaged communities by CalEnviroScreeen. See these visualizations of environmental justice indicators in Santa Ana.
We are using two planning documents to orient our DAC-X-SantaAna work. The first turns various indicators of environmental injustice (from CalEnviroScreen, for example) into a punch-list of items to work on: EiJ Santa Ana EnviroIndicators Punch List. The second document helps visualize progress toward DAC-X-SantaAna on a ten-year timeline with benchmarks for the end of year one (2023), three (2025), five (2027) and ten (2032): EiJ Santa Ana DACX2032 Benchmarks. These documents should help you envision possible ways community members can contribute to DAC-X-SantaAna.
